Quick post!

ok since i have a little bit of time and i don't want to study atm i'll make a quick post =)

went paintballing on sunday! it was pretty fun except i got my shoes all muddy and i have two huge bruises on my leg - they're looking quite colorful
and my legs were so sore for the next 2-3 days lol too much crouching and running - i am proud to say that i actually shot people and didn't get shot at all for like the first 2/3 of the games and i didn't waste that many paintballs so i still had like a lot left by the end

and then i guess other people got trigger happy at the end and i got shot in the leg mult times - hence the bruises...i have no idea from how far away they shot from though
people say it might have been pretty close cause the bruises are pretty ugly lol...i seem to get injured in the legs quite a lot while abroad

anyways since i still had bullets by the end i played another round with like just 8 people and then the very last one we each had 2 paintballs haha

so that's the only fun thing i did besides going to the city yesterday with giwon and taking pictures at the apple store, shopping, eating lunch and getting multiple free samples from a chocolate shop lol we just kept eating and eating....

and another cool thing - my almost neighbor babette (the stairs separate us haha) from the netherlands came up with this great idea to get trace everyone's hands on the second floor and draw their flags on them

here's my awesome texas flag with part of the hk flag =) all the people from the US except one put their state flags on instead of the US flag...cause they're so many stars on our flag
although the california one was pretty hard to draw - but the bear turned out awesome bwahaha (yes i drew that flag) i'm quite proud of my accomplishment haha...although it's even better than mine so i'm jealous lol

and today i was a nerd and went to the library and studied all day =) cause i have absolutely no idea what's going on in my finance class and my midterm is next week (but now i actually do have a clue of what's going on cause i studied! =)

long time no see!

ok just a quick update of what i've been up to since i haven't updated in more than a week

didn't do much monday - wednesday

my finance lectures are SOOOOOOOOOOO boring - i wanted to die

Thursday was Foundation Day and there was a party at Roundhouse so the night included me writing up part of my marketing group proj, pre-drinking (i didn't drink that much...like maybe 7 sips of stuff lol), and partaying
and my friend was pretty drunk and she wanted to eat fries so we went to McDonalds (apparently people call it Mackers...which i think sounds weird haha)

oh yea, earlier on in the day i also met up with my partner for our marketing assignment and we went to the law building/library - look how nice it is!

anyways on to Friday!
went out with Aude (my french friend) and met up with her french friend

Aude also gave me a carambar - french candy

interesting tidbit: when Melwenn (her friend) greeted me, she greeted me in french manners of a kiss on each cheek - kinda took me by surprise but still cool haha

anyways - we headed out to the University of Sydney and you walk through this gorgeous park on the way there
and then this part of the campus (the quadrangle) looks a bit like harry potter! so pretty =) and it was a beautiful day too
then we went to Gloria Jeans and we shared this choco cake

i didn't plan on going anywhere else, but as you know, there's always something going on if you live in IH so a few other friends were going to Chinatown so i decided to go with
it was fun even if the night market basically consisted of this one street haha i did buy $5 shoes though - they're plastic and smelly but i figure why not, it's just an extra pair of shoes that i can wear and throw away later

Saturday - i was going to do homework but i ate lunch and chatted with people until like 2 and once again, i found out people were going to see the sunset at La Perouse so once again i decided to go with

it was gorgeous =)

maybe not the prettiest picture but whatevs - i took like a million lol

THEN after that went back to IH to eat dinner - after dinner, me and a couple of korean girls made shin ramyun lol
and then we proceeded to have game night - we played some game where you build trains across america (i have no idea what the name of it is), uno and then got more people to play mafia (...or killer - whatever you want to call it)
ended up sleeping at almost 4 lol

Sunday was the Aroma Festival at The Rocks!! pictures are up on fb and it was basically a lot of booths with food to buy/try - got a couple of samples which was nice =)
there were A LOT of people though..kinda reminded me of the food truck festival except the lines weren't as long

yesterday i went to Oporto (burger place) to eat lunch with Lynnhere bes my chicken burger - which actually tasted better than it looks in this picture

and since i had a coupon, i got a free coffee bun from Papa Rotti =)

i bought some hot milk tea from Chatime too so tea + coffee bun = awesomeness

then in the afternoon there was a study abroad welcome reception so some IH people and i went to eat free food and mingle (a spanish friend of mine learned this word and he loves it lol)

then after dinner i got registered for Pottermore!! excited =) lots of mixups going on though because of multiple sign ups haha
after that i just did homework for the rest of the night cause i really needed to finish some book problems haha

random note: i swear, some profs here are like the worst profs i have ever had - my microeconomics 2 prof doesn't teach very well at all and my finance prof last week actually forgot what he was doing or what the stuff on his slides meant...lol (his excuse was he didn't have lunch)
but yea - sucks that the two classes that are mandatory for me are my most boring/hardest classes


and now i will see you some other day! watching bridesmaids tonight with some friends =)

went to the city today to paddy's market and ZARA!! =)

inside paddy's market - there's a WHOLE bunch of stuff to buy in there - kinda like lady/flower street in HK

lol only in australia would they have someone in an ugg boot costume

and so that was basically my day =) did i also mention that i watched HP7 pt 2 last night? :D

and i also got approved for my last course so YAY! tomorrow i can finish enrolling

freeeeee!

i officially finished my exams today! yay so that means i can enjoy the rest of my few days here doing whatever and not worrying =)

but quick note about the exams - they're really strict - during the first 30 min and last 30 min you can't turn in your papers/print out your papers or leave

and for the paper exams you write on carbon paper so you produce 4 copies of your exams o_o and they envelopes for turning in the exams and you use your CPR number (just an identification number) so your prof doesn't know your identity

the exams are also 4 hours long - and when they say 4 hours, they mean 4 hours - i used up all 4 hours for both of my exams @_@ i thought i would be able to finish early, but nope, these exams are suuper long

anyways, i went to Fotex after my managerial finance exam, ate lunch, then set off to go visit some chocolate boutiques

first i took the bus to Frederiksberg Chocolade on Frederiksberg Allé - they call this street the Champs Elysee of Copenhagen, but i honestly don't know why cause i've never been to the Champs Elysee haha

it's a really nice street though - lots of boutiques, cafes and trees

i bought this nice box of chocolates - i figure this place is pretty legit since the ladies working there don't really speak English haha

i got to eat some samples too =) they were pretty good - nice and smooth and sweet but not tooo sweet - yumm~ the perfect therapy after insanely long exams
then walked to Summerbird Chokolaterieand i got to try a white chocolate flødeboller ("Theirs is perhaps the ultimate incarnation of this Danish confectionary favourite, being made with crisp, dark 'grand cru' chocolate domes, the traditional sweet, white filling as light as air, and a marzipan base") with passion fruit? filling - it was really good but would have been better if it was cold
i ended up buying mini chocolate ones
and also these almonds - one's covered in raspberry and the other covered in liquorice powder - i tried both and they're pretty good =)

after that, i rode the bus to Forum station and took the metro to Norreport to go to Sct. Peder's Bageri - it's really close to Sct. Peders Kirke, hence the name

too bad it was closed when i got there =(

i actually wandered around Norreport for a while cause i couldn't find the Norregade street and ended up making a huge circle back to the metro station, so i looked at the map and it turns out that my instincts were right at first cause i headed in the right direction but i decided to turn onto some other street (if i continued about 20 more meters i would have been on that street haha)

like the graffiti? haha

they don't really have name tags/plates up for their pastries so i ended up getting this huge thing haha

not as good as Lakagehuset, but still good - i'm really tempted to go back to Lakagehuset to eat another kartoffelkage

then i went Kongens Nytorv/downtown just to window shop and i also tried on some clothes at H&M just for the heck of it - i really like this one shirt so i'm gonna go back and get it!...if i have enough money left lol

random note: flowers are really cheap here - there's a lot of floral shops and at the one in front of Magasin department store you can buy 3 bouquets for 100 kr (around $16) - cheap right? it's so nice that you can buy a nice bouquet of flowers anytime you want cause they're so cheap - and a lot of people do buy flowers here

so after window shopping i went back to my dorm, ate, and then headed to Valby to get pictures/return a calculator/say bye to Gloria (since she's leaving Friday morning)

i did have some difficulties getting there though lol since i haven't been there in a really long time - i got off one bus stop too early and walked over there
and then nick told me the wrong combination to get into the first floor (it's 7351? but he told me 7531 -_-) so i stood outside the door for like 10 min trying to open it and gave up and knocked
luckily Fey came back at that time and pressed the right combination - Jericah also heard my knocking and opened the door though
but yea, frustration! haha

i really can't believe my time in Copenhagen is coming to an end - trying to soak it all in

tomorrow i'm going to Bon Bon Land though =) it should be interesting haha

Odense!

ok, i really should be preparing for my exam, but i realize that i really should write my blog entry on our trip to Odense

but before i begin, i'm wondering if my writing style bothers people ._. cause i read some of my friends' blogs and they all write in complete sentences with proper punctuation, capitalization and such so i'm wondering if the way i write is bothering people...but if it is, i'm still not going to change =P (at least i know the difference between there, they're, their and too, to, two!)

Tuesday - so i had class, but i left 30 min early to meet up with Dora and Amy (we were just reviewing in class - don't worry)

i did buy a mini sandwich and croissant from fotex before i went though - the croissant was sooooo good :)

we actually forgot to get off at Norreport and had to ride back one station lol looks like those 3 long days in Berlin made us forget the metro

anyways, our tickets were so expensive! X| i think it came out to be 396 dkk per person! but then again, Odense is pretty far away - you have to cross the sea to get there...that's probably why it was so expensive haha

it takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to get there by train

but i think it was worth a visit even though Odense is a really tiny town

our first stop (after wandering around cause we were a little lost): the H.C. Andersen Museum

the admission price is actually 60 dkk but "children" 0-17 yrs old get in free and i got away with being 17 yrs old =P yay for saving money! haha

all the pictures are up on facebook, so you can take a look there - but i honestly didn't know that H.C. Andersen wrote sooo many of the fairytales that i read when i was little! he wrote The Emperor's New Clothes, The Ugly Duckling, Thumbellina, The Princess and the Pea, and a lot of other stories

and i also found out that the book i read, Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier is based on one of his fairytales as well

we spent around an hour in the museum which included a history of his entire life with a couple artifacts, a library of his work translated into different languages (apparently they say he's the author with the work translated into the most languages - i think it was over 150?), a replica of his childhood home, and some of his paper cutouts (i thought they were really cool)

Dora and i also sat down and listened to a recording of The Emperor's New Clothes - it was pretty nice and childhood memories came back =)

then we headed outside to watch the show - it was basically a run down of some of his fairytales accompanied by song and dance and some words, but all the performers spoke in Danish

the narrator though spoke in Danish, English and German haha so after a slur of Danish, you'd hear, "The Princess and the Pea!" and then some German

my favorite is definitely the mini performance of The Emperor's New Clothes cause the guy who played the emperor was hilarious


so after this performance, we went to Sct. Albani Kirke and walked/sat around the garden behind it

and then we went to look at Hans Christian Andersen's childhood home, but since it was closed already we just looked at the outside

random note: while walking along the street, we heard someone blasting techno music from inside their apartment - A LOT of people listen to techno music here (i always hear it coming out of cars when i leave my window open)...it's kinda weird lol

next: shopping! =)

but like i said, it's a small town so there really wasn't anything to buy, but there was some interesting window shopping

i did get a strawberry and vanilla swirl of soft ice coated in chocolate =D

it was good except my experience was kinda ruined by the massive amount of flying ants (you know, those big ones with white wings?)/flies flying around the shopping street

so after that, we went to another church - Sct. Hans Kirke

it's near the King's Garden? and we were thinking about hanging out there but it turned out to be small and there weren't that many flowers either haha - we were like...this is it?

but even if it was nice, we really wanted to get away from all the flying ants

i really like visiting the churches here cause they're so beautiful - you don't really see churches with beautiful carvings and such in the US

Dora saw that there was a museum for Denmark's most famous composer? and we walked to the museum which is also near the Odense Concert Hall
the museum had already closed so once again, we just looked inside lol

then we took the train back to CPH and ate at some restaurant in Norreport that all the ISUP students seem to know about cause it's cheap Sat-Tues haha

if you buy a drink, everything else is 50% off so i bought a frozen limonade that had lime, lemon, ice, elderflower, and MINT in it =) it kinda tasted like something you'd be able to drink at a Vietnamese restaurant or something but it was still pretty tasty despite it's weird green color

my meal was a big plate of really really really really really good lasagna =) it was nice and hot and the cheese wasn't that heavy and the inside was like some cannellonis that i ate in a good Italian restaurant in Austin

so yup, i finished the whole thing cause it was that good =)

then we headed back to Porcelaenshavn with really full stomachs!

random note: another thing that i noticed (i don't know if i've mentioned it before since i always forget what random tidbits i've written and which ones i have written haha) is that people in grocery stores place the "next customer" divider thing after they place their things on the conveyor belt (so i'd place the divider between my things and the customer after me)

i have no idea if this is just their way of dividing things or being nice to the person after them - i just thought i was interesting since we always place the divider between our own things and the person before us in line

while i'm here, i'll just write about what i did yesterday (Thursday) - i went to Kongens Nytorv after class to look at the sales one last time (didn't buy anything cause there isn't really anything left worth buying)

but i did buy a ridiculously yummy tasting belgian waffle with soft ice on top =) haha more ice cream!

then back home to work on marketing...which i should be doing now - i read information about our exams and we have to be in the examination room 30 min before the exam or we can't take it! 30 min??? i have no idea why we even need to be there that early considering the exam lasts 4 hours but oh well, i'll have to be there at early next week!

i haven't updated in a while, but that's because i didn't do much this week

Monday - just went to class and grocery shopping

Tuesday - did some exam prep and went to Norreport and walked down the shopping street
didn't buy anything, but discovered the store Tiger, which is kind of like a dollar store since most things there are 10 kr - you can even buy headphones for 10 kr! there's just lots of random stuff like dishes, books, calculators, notebooks, snacks, etc. some of it is more expensive (up to 50 kr) but still, everything is pretty cheap!

i also discovered that if you keep walking down this street, you hit Strøget (main shopping street in downtown)

and that means that there are basically three H&Ms within walking distance of each other lol

YESTERDAY however, was a fun day =)

first, i met up with Claire at 10 am - well, she was late so i waited for her for 25 min - which wasn't that fun but it's ok!

we went to the Thorvaldsen Museum, which displays all the works of art by Bertel Thorvaldsen, who was a Danish sculptor and donated all his works to the city

remember this yellow building from the canal tour? this is the museum!

afterward, we wandered over to the Christiansborg Slot aka Christiansborg Palace


it's really pretty inside, but since we didn't have enough time and the entrance fee was 60 kr, we didn't go in

theeen, we went to the Black Diamond - part of the National Library - since it was really close by

we just kind of walked around and didn't go into the reading rooms since you can't take anything inside - that and we couldn't seem to figure out how to get into some of the rooms lol

next! we hunted for lunch in Kongens Nytorv and finally found some smørrebrød to try (which apparently just means "sandwiches" in Danish)

so, i guess it was my first time tasting

Claire's sandwich - it had herring in some curry sauce

mine which was smoked herring with capers and onions

i honestly don't know how i feel about it - truthfully, i didn't really like it cause it was super sour X| kinda tasted like those Chinese sour vegetables we sometimes have - add that with sour-ish bread and capers (which are sour) and it's kinda of a sour overdose

i think other types of meats would agree more with my taste buds but that's ok - and it doesn't look like much but i was actually full after eating it all - i swear they jammed a lot of slices of fish in that tiny bowl

then the highlight of my day!!

are you excited to hear about it? :D cause i'm excited to tell you about it!

so Claire and I went to La Glace! it's near the end of Strøget and they have all these nice cakes =)

sorry it's so blurry, but it was taken through the window, so yea

i forgot what cake Claire got, but here's a picture - it's seasonal and has rhubarb it

and i got the Sportskage - you can see it in the picture above and also here - it's the house special and has "crushed nougat, whipped cream, macaroon bottom and caramelized choux pastry"

so when i was waiting to buy the cake, i was kinda worried that they would run out cause so many slices were being bought, but when it was my turn there was still some left =)

but that's not the exciting part - so the lady goes and gets the cake to cut it (or so i thought) but she came back and told me, "the slices are normally not this big, but since it's the last piece, i'll just give it to you"

:D and so i ended up with a huge piece of cake C:

side view! on top is the whipped cream with some cream puffs and the middle tastes like mousse and then you have the crunchy macaroon bottom - it was really really good :D

and when i couldn't finish it, they wrapped it up for me so yes, i was very happy C:

and i have just finished my leftover cake with some tea ♥ and it was still good (although it melted a little) - perfect!

after that i went to class (starts at 2:25 pm) and was promptly bored to death

and after class, my day wasn't done yet - ate dinner (and watched pll and miobi) then it was off to Nørrebro to partake in Danish folk dancing

it was pretty fun - esp since they only showed us the dance once and kinda directed us, so during some of the harder dances we messed up a lot

but a lot of the dances were really cute! and mostly simple but of course, as always, the downside was the heat - they didn't have AC so it was so hot x_x

and sorry, no pictures, but i'm going to get some from my friend later

now, onto today! :D

i had a really good shopping day today :)

of course, it helps when all the sales are basically coming to an end, so stuff is even more on sale - for instance, ZARA had a "FINAL MARKDOWN" sign (does our ZARA even have one of those signs? i know the ones in HK definitely don't)

so here are my purchases

black shirt - doesn't look that great in the picture, but i like it
i think the other tags on the bigger sizes said 50 kr, so i was contemplating on whether to get it or not, but it turned out that there was no 50 kr sale tag on this, so the girl just marked it down to 30 kr =D (around $5.20)

then this jacket - i really like it and it cost 90 kr ($15.50)

so now for ZARA - oh how i love ZARA here cause it's soooooo much cheaper here than elsewhere and like i said, it was the final markdown so here's what i bought

i really couldn't resist buying both of these - they're both 2 in 1s - so the white one comes with a red shirt and the grey one comes with a purple one - and they were both only 29 kr ($5) so essentially, 4 shirts for $10 =)

then i saw these shoes and it were the only pair left - and in size 36 yay! and they actually look decent when i have them on - it doesn't look too loose at the top
i thought they were 99 kr, but when i saw the total, i was like wait what? how come it's not around 160 kr?
so they turned out to be only 59 kr XD so it's even cheaper - not sure what the original price was but i know another sale sticker said 269 kr ($46.30) and on the tag it says 39.95 euros (around $51) and i got it for 59 kr! ($10.20)
and they're just a tad snug, so they'll probably fit my sister even better (you happy?)

woo hoo! i certainly know why everyone is so happy here and if these things keep happening to me, i might not even want to leave (jk of course)

yay for happy days!

btw, i hear Darth Vader was hanging around Strøget today lol
